Details are scarce, but rumor has it that developer Jerome Karam plans to buy yet another vacant department store building at Mall of the Mainland — this time the space formerly occupied by J.C. Penney.
J.C. Penney closed its Texas City store in 2006 to operate a store at Baybrook Mall and later a standalone in League City.
No word yet on how Karam plans to develop the J.C. Penney site.
Karam earlier this summer acquired the former Macy’s building at the mall. Palais Royal plans to move its Mall of the Mainland store to the Macy’s building. World Gym and 11,000-square-foot Salon Cinque will join World Gym and Palais Royal.
What are your thoughts about Karam's Texas City investments and the possibility of reviving some retail at the Mall of the Mainland site?
